Customs Duties
Will I have to pay customs or import charges for my order?
Yes. All shipments from Japan to the United States are now subject to a 15% reciprocal tariff, regardless of the order amount. These charges are determined and collected by U.S. Customs and are usually billed through the shipping company at the time of delivery. You may be asked to pay directly to the carrier.
Why was such a high customs duty (50%) charged on my order?
In rare cases, U.S. Customs may incorrectly classify fishing reels as steel or aluminum products, which are subject to a much higher tariff rate of 50%. However, fishing reels do not fall under that category. According to the Harmonized System (HS) of tariff classification, fishing reels are classified under HS Code 9507.30 – Fishing reels, which is part of “Fishing rods, line fishing tackle, and other articles for fishing” under Chapter 95 (Toys, games and sports requisites).
This category is legally distinct from steel and aluminum articles, which are classified under Chapters 72 and 76 of the HS code system. Therefore, fishing reels should not be subject to the 50% steel/aluminum tariff. Instead, as of the end of last month, they are subject to the reciprocal tariff rate of 15% applied to all goods shipped from Japan to the United States.
If you believe a higher rate has been charged in error, we recommend that you contact the shipping company or U.S. Customs directly to request a review or correction.
